Kolkata: Sixty-eight companies of Central forces sanctioned by the Centre for the West Bengal civic polls have arrived in the State. The Border Security Forces has also been alerted for maintaining a vigil in view of the elections to the 81 municipalities on May 30. There is a degree of apprehension about violence during the polls which are being seen as a test of strength for the respective parties in the fray ahead of the Assembly polls which are due next year. Director-General of Police Bhupinder Singh told reporters on Wednesday that of these 48 were Central forces while the rest were forces drafted from States like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa and Tripura. The single largest posse of security forces of 24 companies would be posted in South 24 Parganas followed by 23 companies in the North 24 Parganas, two districts on either flank of the state capital. Kolkata would get nine companies in addition to the 33,000 personnel from the city police force .
