Photo exhibition on Suraiya

Staff Reporter

Kochi: An exhibition of photos on the late writer Kamala Suraiya taken by Razack Thazhathangadi, chief photographer of Madhyamam daily, was inaugurated by Culture Minister M.A. Baby at the Press Club Art Gallery here on Friday.

Titled ‘From Neermathalam to Gulmohar', the photos — captured over 17 years, between 1992 and 2009, the year Suraiya died — present various facets of the writer's life as Madhavikutty and later as Kamala Suraiya.

Also on display are copies of some most familiar pictures of Suraiya in her teens, with her family and the like, taken from her album.

The pictures bring alive the many twists and turns in the life of Kerala's most controversial and most-loved writer.

Sulochana Nalapatt, Suraiya's sister, delivered a commemorative lecture.
