Knanaya meet begins at Ranni

PATHANAMTHITTA: The 1665th anniversary meet of the Knanaya Syrian Christian Church began at Ranni on Friday evening.

Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostum, senior Metropolitan of Mar Thoma Church, inaugurated the meet by lighting a ceremonial lamp. Archbishop of Knanaya Church Kuriakose Mar Savarios presided over the function. Knanaya Bishop Kuriakose Mar Ivanios, Raju Abraham and Joseph M. Puthusserry, MLAs, and Jacob Punnoose, Director-General of Police, were among those who spoke.

A cultural meet will be held as part of the annual congregation on Saturday. Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran will inaugurate the meet in the afternoon. P.K. Narayana Panicker, NSS

general secretary, will deliver the keynote address.

Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy will inaugurate a women's meet on Sunday forenoon. Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh will inaugurate the valedictory meet at 5 p. m.
