PATHANAMTHITTA: Other States are trying to emulate ‘Janamaithri Suraksha' the community policing model of Kerala Police, Director General of Police, Jacob Punnoose has said. The DGP was releasing a documentary made by the Thiruvalla police at a function held at Mar Athanasios College For Advanced Studies Thiruvalla (Macfast) at Thukalasserry on Friday. He said the police could check crimes to a large extent under the Janamaithri scheme with the active participation of the public. Expert teams had visited Kerala many times exploring the possibility of implementing a similar scheme in other States. Mr. Punnoose said the scheme had been successfully implemented in 43 police station limits. Another 100 police stations would be brought under its purview soon. As many as 400 police personnel had been posted as beat officers as part of scheme in the State. All of them were maintaining a health relationship with households in their jurisdiction, he added. Documentary The 12-minute documentary that presents the dos and don'ts during crisis was made under the guidance of K. Sanjaykumar, District Superintendent of Police, V.G. Vinodkumar, DySP and R. Jayaraj, Circle Inspector of Police. The DGP also released the Janamaithri database software prepared by Kerala Police, in association with Macfast students. Fr. Abraham Mulamoottil, college principal, presided. Cherian Polachirackal, municipal chairman, K.R. Prathapachandra Varma, BJP State committee member, V.G. Vinodkumar, DySP, and R.Jayaraj, Thiruvalla Circle Inspector, attended the function.
