Officials identify 649 beneficiaries eligible for the pattas in 13 localities in the city Officials asked to finalise the patta distribution programme in a week KURNOOL: The Revenue Department led by Collector Ramsankar Naik initiated a bold step to regularise the stay of squatters along the canals and on open lands. A high-level meeting chaired by Collector was attended by Joint Collector Jyothi Budha Prakash, District Revenue Officer Suryaprakash, Tahsildars of Kurnool and Kallur. The Collector told the officers that the squatters staying 10 meters away from the canal border would be allowed to retain land. Patta would be granted for an extent of two cents for each family and for the land above it, the beneficiary has to pay the market value. The officials identified 649 beneficiaries eligible for the pattas in 13 localities in the city. The fate of families living on the canal bunds was hanging in balance for a long time. As there was pressure from public to develop canal roads as walking track, the officials were unable to clear the encroachments. Now that the Revenue Department found a way to free the canal bunds by regularising the stay of families away from the canal bund, it means that the structures located close to the water body would be removed. The officials were asked to finalise the patta distribution in a week.
