HYDERABAD: Hundreds of enthusiastic Congress and the Telugu Desam Party workers thronged the Assembly premises as the party nominees filed their papers on Friday.

Right from morning, the Assembly premises over flowed with party cadres, who accompanied Congress candidates – V. Hanumantha Rao, J. D. Seelam and N. Janardhana Reddy. TDP workers wearing yellow shirts came in a convoy of vehicles accompanied by the two nominees – Y. S. Chowdary and Gundu Sudharani. Some of the employees of Sujana Industries owned by Mr. Chowdary were among those who cheered him.

It was an out and out Mr. Hanumantha Rao's show as a large contingent of his supporters thronged the Congress Legislature Party office. Carrying bouquets and tri-colour kanduvas, these workers made Mr. Hanumantha Rao break into a jig to the tune of drum beats soon after he filed his papers. Others burst crackers and raised slogans in his favour as he boarded a vehicle to visit religious places in a convoy.

There were some tense moments as the nominations papers of Mr. Janardhana Reddy did not bear the signature of the local Tahsildar, who had to attest a copy of the voter identity card.

Congress leaders swung into action and ensured that Golconda Tahsildar rushed to the Assembly to append his signature. Ten MLAs each proposed the candidature of respective candidates. P.Kista Reddy and nine others proposed the candidature of Mr. Jairam Ramesh, while Dr. P. Shanker Rao and others signed the papers of Mr. Hanumantha Rao. D. L.Ravindra Reddy and J.C.Diwakar Reddy proposed the candidature of Mr. Seelam and Mr. Janardhana Reddy respectively. G. Ramanaidu and nine others proposed Mr. Chowdary's candidature while G. Nagesh signed the papers of Ms. Sudharani along with others.
