A rare gesture by Ministers

Special Correspondent

NAMAKKAL: In a rare gesture a team of Ministers helped a road accident victim to reach the hospital within the stipulated golden hour period so that his life could be saved.

On Sunday, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare S. Gandhiselvan and State Health Minister M R K Panneerselvam, accompanied by Collector U. Sagayam and a team of health officials, had a hectic schedule to attend a series of functions in the district.

After attending a function at Elachipalayam, they were on their way to Mallasamudhram to attend yet another function. When their convoy was nearing Chinnathambipalayam, they saw a 40-year-old man lying at the centre of the road, writhing in pain and also profusely bleeding.

He was reportedly hit by a speeding vehicle. The Ministers stopped the convoy and summoned the health team that had accompanied them to treat the victim immediately. The doctors provided him the vital first aid treatment on the road itself.

Then the 108 ambulance service was called in, which rushed him to the near-by Tiruchengode Government Hospital where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. Later, he was declared out of danger. The Ministers and officials, however, kept their appointment by attending the function.
