Staff Reporter

KAKINADA: Works worth Rs. 7,000 crore would be taken up in the State under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme during the current financial year, according to Rural Development Minister Vatti Vasanth Kumar.

The Minister made a surprise visit to the ongoing works under the scheme at Chebrolu village of Gollarpolu mandal and Komaragiri village of U. Kottapalli mandal on Monday and interacted with the labourers.

Speaking to the media later, Mr. Vasanth Kumar said that the scheme helped preventing migrations from rural pockets to urban areas.

In the last three months, works worth Rs. 1,600 crore have been completed under the scheme, he said.

Project director of the District Water Management Authority Ravi Kumar, project director of the District Rural Development Agency K. Madhukar Babu and other officials were present at the conference.
