Hyderabad: After much delay, the APSRTC has finally initiated steps in ensuring safety of passengers at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus station (MGBS) and installed three doorframe metal detectors in the station. However, the initiative is restricted to MGBS and Jubilee Bus station is yet to be provided with such security equipment.
These doorframe detectors are installed at the main entrance of the station near Mahatma Gandhi statue, while one is installed at the Karimnagar departure point between platforms No. 55 and 60. Each doorframe detector costs around Rs. 20,000 and authorities are planning to install few more such detectors in the station premises shortly, said a senior official.
Corporation home guards would man these detectors and would ensure every passenger undergoes the security check. There are over 70 platforms in the station and on the lack of security checks at many platforms, the official replied that shortly two more doorframe detectors would be installed at the Kalikabar-end of the station to curb free access and ensure security checks.
In addition to this, the long-pending plan to install closed circuit television cameras in the station would take off this month-end.
