Raghuveera hints at ‘quitting' if YSR schemes are withdrawn

SANGAREDDY: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy said that it would not be possible to continue in politics if the welfare schemes introduced by late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy were discontinued by the government. He said that there would be no meaning continuing in the Ministry and expressed confidence that the schemes would be continued without any deviation.

He made these comments while participating in ‘Rytu Sadsassu' held at Basantapur in Nyalakal mandal on Monday. However, he did not further elaborate on the issue. He said that the conference of Agriculture Ministers of the States where agriculture is predominant would be held shortly at Hyderabad. The conference would discuss about the problems being faced by the farming community and bring pressure on the Union government to address their problems.

Farm loans

Mr. Reddy said that farmers would be advanced loans to the tune of Rs. 790 crore during khariff season and the bankers were directed accordingly.

Referring to the drip irrigation in the district, the Minister said that officials were given a target of implementing the scheme in 8,000 hectares in the present year and were also directed to extend the facility and there was no ceiling for that to Medak district, which was rain-fed area. The Minister also informed that the input subsidy to farmers would be distributed from next week.

The Agriculture Minister clarified that there was no dearth of seed and fertilizer.

Minister for Information J. Geeta Reddy said that the government has been making all out efforts to benefit the farming community and as part of that various schemes were being introduced.

Lok Sabha member Suresh Shetkar, Collector S Suresh Kumar, ZP Chairman M. Balaiah and others participated in the programme.
