The aim is to inform engineers about latest trends MANGALORE: The Government's Task Force for Quality Assurance in Public Construction will organise a two-day seminar-cum-exhibition on quality construction here from June 10. Addressing presspersons here on Monday, P. Mahadevappa, member of the task force, said that the seminar was aimed at informing junior government engineers up to the rank of assistant executive engineer about the latest technical trends in civil engineering for enhancing quality of construction. He said that the task force, headed by C.S. Vishwanath, was looking into various aspects of implementing works taken up by the government departments. For this, the technical competence of engineers would have to be increased. The task force conducted a two-day workshop for senior engineers above the level of executive engineers in Bangalore recently, and the Mangalore workshop would be the first of six such workshops planned at the zonal level for junior engineers, he said. Ravindranath, member secretary of the task force, said that the seminar here would have 10 technical sessions focussing on new developments in use of manufactured sand, curing compounds and self-compacting concrete. The task force would make a recommendation to the Government to include these latest technologies in the official schedule of rates, so that they could be used in future projects, Mr. Mahadevappa said. C.M. Udasi, Minister for Public Works, will inaugurate the event.
