Kerala government to take over 3 sick private industries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Cabinet decided on Wednesday to take over three sick private industries, Travancore Rayons, Perumbavoor; Aluminium Industries, Kundara; and the textile unit of Commonwealth Trust in Kozhikode.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told the media here that the Cabinet had approved the ordinances for their takeover, so as to solve the problems of their workers.

The Cabinet had also approved the ordinances for entrusting the Public Service Commission with the appointments to the Kerala Sports Council and for takeover of 1,026 acres for the development of the Munnar tourist zone. Another ordinance would be issued for setting up a tribunal for deciding land cases at Munnar and nearby areas. He said a decision would be taken soon on the Chief Secretary's report on the remarks made by Principal Secretary (Industries) T. Balakrishnan against the government policy on the Coca-Cola plant at Plachimada.

The report of the committee headed by K. Jayakumar (Additional Chief Secretary) on payment of compensation to those affected by the operation of the plant at Plachimada was under the consideration of the Cabinet.

Grant of title deeds

The Cabinet decided to grant title deeds to 100 families living on peramboke land in the coastal areas of Neyyattinkara taluk in Thiruvananthapuram district.

The remaining 38 families would be given titles for the land in their possession on completion of survey.

It was also decided to create 12 posts of excise supervisory staff, to be posted to the shops of the Kerala State Beverages Corporation in Thiruvananthapuram, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts.
