For a cause:Schoolchildren take part in a jatha organised on World Day Against Child Labour in Mysore on Saturday. MYSORE: An awareness jatha and a public function marked World Day Against Child Labour here on Saturday. The programmes were jointly organised by the district administration, District Legal Services Authority, Labour Department, police, Rashtriya Baala Karmika Yojana Society and NGOs. Schoolchildren and others took part in the jatha which was flagged off at Town Hall by Principal District and Sessions judge H.P. Sandesh. It passed through K.R. Circle, D. Devaraj Urs Road and J.L.B. Road before culminating at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry, where a public function was organised to mark the occasion. Mr. Sandesh, Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta, Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal, Superintendent of Police Rama Subba and Assistant Labour Commissioner S.S. Sharif were present. Mr. Sharif told The Hindu that incidents of child labour had come down in the district because of inspections and raids conducted by the Labour Department on shops and commercial establishments where children aged below 14 were employed. He said that these rescued children were rehabilitated and brought to the mainstream.
