VISAKHAPATNAM: The Orissa Cabinet, at its meeting held in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, approved a bill to be tabled in the Assembly to convert JITM, a reputed engineering college at Parlakhemundi in Gajapati district, into a university. The new university would be called Centurion University of Technology and Management. The Centurion group, promoted by two academicians – Dr. Mukti Kanta Mishra and Prof. D.N. Rao – is running the JITM. The group recently made its entry into Andhra Pradesh. The new private technology university would also benefit students from the adjacent districts like Srikakulam and Vizianagaram, according to a press release. Gajapati district, one of the poorest in the country and also declared as Maoist-affected district, will have a university now.
