Day two:President of the Karnataka unit of the Akhila Bharat Kisan Sabha M.C. Venkataramu in Davangere on Saturday. DAVANGERE: President of the Karnataka unit of the Akhila Bharat Kisan Sabha M.C. Venkataramu has questioned the State Government for not treating anganwadi workers on a par with government employees. Inaugurating the second day of the State anganwadi workers' conference here on Saturday, Mr. Venkataramu said they worked for not less than 10 hours every day. Their service, especially to women and children, could not be valued in terms of money, he added. The Government should treat workers and assistants as Class IV employees and give them facilities like ESI, Provident Fund and retirement benefits, he said. It had been violating the Minimum Wages Act by not giving minimum wages to the workers, he charged. ‘Didn't get support' Harihar MLA B.P. Harish said he was not supported by trade unions and the Opposition when he spoke out against those who “looted” the natural resources of the country. It was the responsibility of trade unions and political parties to raise their voice against it, he said. President of the State Anganwadi Workers' Federation H.K. Ramachandrappa, H.V. Anantha Subba Rao, Pramila, Radha Suresh, B.V. Vijaya and Avaragere Chandru were among those who spoke.
