Indian referees make it through FIFA course

Chennai: 26 of the country's top football referees completed the week-long FIFA Elite Refereeing Course at the Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.

The course was conducted under the expert tutelage of Iran's instructor Masoud Enayat and included two women referees. “There is much improvement from last year. But there is always scope for more improvement,” said Enayat.

“We stressed on physical fitness and on encouraging consistency in offside calls, fouls, dealing with misconduct and awarding penalties,” said J. Ravishankar, coordinator, All India Football Federation.

The 26 referees who participated included three FIFA referees and six FIFA assistant referees. The course was organised by the AIFF under the auspices of the Tamil Nadu Football Association.
