Murder accused fled after being admitted to hospital Chitradurga: Following allegations of failing to register a complaint and helping an accused in a murder case escape, Chitradurga Town police station sub-inspector Subhash Chandra has been suspended. After making preliminary enquiries, Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram ordered his suspension. Subhash Chandra has been accused of helping Somashekhar, Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat member and murder accused, escape. Somashekhar and his son Bhaskar have been charged with the murder of Madhusudan Reddy alias Madhu. Bhaskar is the member of the Chitradurga City Municipal Corporation. He and five others are now in judicial custody. It may be recalled that on May 28, Bhaskar and his supporters reportedly killed Madhu in cold blood. The body was later taken to Budihalli village in Sira taluk of Tumkur district, where it was doused with petrol and burnt. The charred body was later recovered. Bhaskar and Madhu reportedly nursed a personal vendetta against each other. On March 19, Madhu had registered a complaint against Bhaskar for attempted murder, after which the police opened a rowdy-sheeter case against Bhaskar. Madhu's family also registered a complaint with the police that Subash Chandra been allegedly paid by Bhaskar in an attempt to weaken the case. On May 28, when Madhu's wife Swarooprani visited the police station to register a case of her husband's kidnap, she voiced her suspicions of the involvement of Bhaskar and his associates. However, Subash Chandra allegedly did not register the complaint. On Mr. Ram's orders, Subash Chandra went to Mysore to bring the accused where they were reportedly hiding. Stating that Somashekhar knew the whereabouts of the accused, the sub-inspector took him along. There, Somashekhar reportedly complained of chest pain and Subash Chandra admitted him to a private hospital, without informing his superiors. “Since then, Somashekhar is absconding,” Mr. Ram said. He said that a total of 18 persons have been accused in the case, of which six have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Those still at large are: Somashekar, his younger brothers Srinivas and Diwakar, Jagadish (a close relative of Somashekar and his wife, Lakshmamma. On the present status of the case, Mr. Ram said that a team had been constituted to trace the accused.
