Project to cost Rs. 10 crore Bhoomi puja to be performed by Swami Gautamananda GULBARGA: The bhoomi puja for a Rs. 10-crore project comprising a students' hostel, hospital, teachers' training school, prayer hall, yoga kendra and an auditorium in the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram here will be conducted on June 18. According to Swami Maheshwarananda of the ashram, the project will come up on a three-acre area allotted by the Government. Free accommodation Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, the swami said the hostel would provide free accommodation and food to poor and meritorious youngsters from rural areas. One of the major problems faced by students from rural areas was the lack of hostels in Gulbarga city. He said the bhoomi puja for the project would be performed by Swami Gautamananda, a trustee of the Ramakrishna Math, who heads the activities of the Ramakrishna Mission in south India. Residential school The swami said the ashram started its activities in a small way by establishing a residential school for poor students at Tadateganur in 2002-03. The institution, which had 70 students then, now provides education and accommodation to over 750 students.
