Track blast: petition filed

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has posted for Wednesday the hearing on a habeas corpus petition filed by the kin of nine persons who were allegedly detained by the police in connection with the recent railway track blast near Villupuram.

Counsel for Mangayarkarasi, the wife of Thamizh Vengai, and others mentioned the matter before a Bench comprising Justices C. Nagappan and P.R.Sivakumar on Tuesday.

The petitioners submitted that the men were picked up from their homes for questioning soon after the blast. They alleged that their arrest had not yet been recorded and that there was no information about their whereabouts. They said telegrams and representations had been sent to the Superintendent of Police, District Collector and Director-General of Police but there was no response.
