SALEM: Criticising the DMK regime as anti-people's government, cadres of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) staged a demonstration near the Collectorate here on Thursday urging the State to provide basic amenities in Salem city and remove the power cut that has crippled the industry in the district.

The cadre raised slogans against the DMK regime saying that the government had not fulfilled promises made to the people of Salem city.

Condemning the Salem Corporation for its apathetic attitude to people's problems, the opposition party wondered what had happened to the assurance given on the alternative day supply of drinking water to Salem city.

Water

The drinking water shortage had gripped the city and also district, the cadre claimed. The party also wanted to know the fate of the Under Ground Drainage scheme and the Kitchipalayam composite yard.

The steep price increase in yarn and power cuts had totally destroyed the district's industry. The law and order situation had also worsened, they said. Salem MP S Semmalai presided.
