Corporation launches website in Tamil

Yet another contribution to World Classical Tamil Conference: Mayor


Residents can download birth and death certificates free of cost from the website through any web-enabled system

User-friendly: Mayor M. Subramanian launches the Tamil website of the Chennai Corporation on Thursday.

CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation on Thursday launched its website in Tamil as part of its efforts to promote the language.

Launching the website at a function here, Mayor M. Subramanian said, “The Corporation's Tamil website will be of help to a large number of residents of Chennai.”

He said that it would be another contribution to the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held in Coimbatore from June 23-27.

The residents would be able to download birth and death certificates free of cost from the website through any web-enabled system.

The website would help delivery of services such as online building plan permission, trade licence, payment of property tax, booking of corporation community hall, booking of freezer box, registration of public grievances and free download of forms, the Mayor said.

Application for assessment of property tax can also be submitted online. The website would have details of all the departments of the Chennai Corporation.

The website of the civic body in English was launched in 2003. A total of 9,78,587 people have made use of the website for delivery of services and information. Almost 5.48 lakh birth certificates and 1.79 lakh death certificates have been downloaded so far.

Over 8,400 online applications for building plan permission have been received by the civic body.
