Differently-abled to distribute handbills Demands reservation in Rajya sabha COIMBATORE: Differently-abled people in the city have decided to draw the Chief Minister's and public's attention on problems faced by them, by distributing handbills. Resolutions passed at a meeting held here in the city said the people with disabilities were disappointed as the Government had not issued necessary orders to redress their grievances, though it had accepted them in principle. Of the grievances presented to the Government it had issued order to only start a separate department for challenged people. There had been no development on issues regarding benefits in education and employment. There had so far been no progress in giving 3 per cent reservation for the differently-abled in either Rajya Sabha or the to-be constituted Legislative Council. The other demands that had not been met are the complete implementation of the provisions of the United Nation resolutions for differently-abled, allocation of 3 per cent resources of all departments for persons with disabilities, monetary assistance for differently-abled students in private institutions and a census on the special people. The demands also include an order to make disabled identity card as an acceptable identification document, a fresh 15-digit identity card and filling up of vacancies as per the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.
