UDF gives rubber saplings to farmers

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: The United Democratic Front (UDF) organised a public function at Thengeli in Kuttoor grama panchayat near Thiruvalla to distribute rubber saplings to farmers who had lost rubber trees in an attack by some miscreants in March.

Thousand rubber saplings were provided by Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy on the basis of his promise to provide rubber saplings to the affected farmers, if the government failed to do so in a time-bound manner.

P.J. Kurien, Rajya Sabha member, inaugurated distribution of saplings. The 11 farmers who lost their rubber trees in the attack were given saplings. Addressing the meeting, Joseph M. Puthussery, MLA, said Mr. Chandy had to supply the saplings since the State government failed to extend relief to those affected.

Satheesh Kochuparambil, District Congress Committee vice-president, also spoke.
