City power supply to improve?

CPDCL awaits PFC nod for system improvement proposal

HYDERABAD: The city can look forward to safer and reliable power supply in at least a few of its localities if the proposal towards system improvements by the Central Power Distribution Company Limited receives a nod from Power Finance Corporation (PFC).

Five hundred kilometres of 33-KV and 11-KV underground cabling and 300 kilometres of aerial-bunched cables have been proposed for the city as part of the Rs.600-crore project under Phase-B of the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme(R-APDRP) announced by PFC.

The three-year programme will be implemented from 2010-11 to 2013-14, CPDCL Chairman & Managing Director M.T. Krishna Babu told reporters here on Friday.

Aerial-bunching

Aerial-bunching of the 11-KV conductors will be taken up in areas of heavy tree growth and the 11-KV underground cable works, in congested areas with limited corridor, he said. Keeping in view the 11-KV breakdowns recently experienced due to blustery weather, the company has already taken up aerial bunching of 150 kilometres of 11-KV conductors on emergency basis at an estimated cost of Rs.15 crore. The project will be completed within two months.

In view of the rapid load growth in GHMC area, CPDCL has proposed to take up construction of 25 new 33/11 KV substations in Tarnaka, Malakpet, Tolichowki, Moti Mahal, Hyderabad Public School, KIMS Hospital, Erramanzil, Chintal Basti, Koti, Basheerbagh, Kondapur, and a few more in Ranga Reddy district.

Mobile messages

Consumers can also look forward to receiving automated mobile messages about power breakdowns in their localities soon, as the company has finished mapping the services feeder-wise.

Also being taken up is the provision of alternative power supply to the 33/11 KV substations of Goshamahal, Begumpet Airport, Sanjeevaiah Park and Bansilalpet.
