CPI(M) calls for steps on bus shelter

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The State unit of the CPI(M) on Friday urged Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to take steps to construct a bus shelter at Uthapuram in Madurai district.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, CPI(M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan said though his party MP T.K. Rangarajan had allotted Rs.3 lakh for the purpose, the government was not able to utilise the money because caste-Hindus were objecting to the construction.

“They are objecting because they know it is a common bus shelter and they have to share it with the Dalits,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said.

He also brought to the notice of the Chief Minister the arrest of 12 Dalits. They were arrested after they questioned the removal of concrete slabs covering the sewage canal.
