Heat wave grips North again

Temperature crosses 45-degree mark at many places in Rajasthan


Hisar hottest in Haryana at 45.8 degree Celsius

Shimla recorded a temperature of 28.5 degrees


New Delhi: A scorching heat wave swept most parts of North India on Saturday with high humidity posing problems for citizens as Phalodi in Rajasthan baked at 46.5 degrees.

In the desert State of Rajasthan, the temperature crossed the 45-degree mark at many places. Phalodi was the hottest place at 46.5 degrees Celsius followed by Kota at 46.3 degrees.

Sriganganagar, Barmer and Churu recorded a maximum of 46.2, 46 and 45.9 degrees respectively while the high in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur settled at 45 degrees each. Meanwhile, Ajmer recorded 0.3 mm rainfall while Dabok and Churu received drizzles.

The heat wave again gripped Haryana, Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh as Hisar was hottest in the region at 45.8 C, five notches above normal.

Amritsar endured a hot day at 44.4 Celsius, up by four degrees, while Ludhiana was equally hot at 44.3 Celsius, three notches above normal. The maximum in Patiala settled at 42.6 Celsius, four degrees above normal, followed by Ambala 42.3 C, Karnal 41.6 C and Chandigarh 40.5 Celsius.

Himachal Pradesh also saw the mercury rising at most places by one to two degrees. Una was hottest in the State with the maximum climbing to 42 degrees against 41.6 on Friday. The hill resort of Shimla was unusually warm at 28.5 degrees.

Elsewhere, Sundernagar recorded a high of 37.4, an increase of 1.5 degrees since Friday, while Mandi and Bhuntar recorded a maximum temperature of 38.4 and 35.2 Celsius respectively against 36.9 Celsius and 34 Celsius on Friday. - PTI
