Students demand increase in quota of seats in NIT

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: A group of students, who have secured the top 40 ranks in the All India Engineering Examinations (AIEEE) in Puducherry region this year, have demanded an increase in quota of seats in the National Institute of Technology, Puducherry for students from the Union Territory.

This follows the release of seat matrix on the Central Counselling Board's website on June 17, which has allotted 45 seats for Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar islands together.

According to the students, as per reservation policy, 50 per cent of the seats in NIT's should be allotted to students from the home State.

The total intake for the NIT Puducherry is 90 and hence 45 seats should be allotted to the students from the region.
