SALEM: A retired armoury havildar of the para-military outfit, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jammu and Kashmir unit, Selvaraj (50) was arrested in connection with a dacoity here recently. Valuables With his detention, the arrest in the sensational case in which the gang dressed in khaki trousers and white T-shirts looted cash and valuables from the house of Salem Steel Plant Deputy General Manager Ganesamoorthy, after attacking the watchman, rose to four. Gang leader Balaji of Thoothukudi district against whom 20 cases of dacoity and robbery were pending at various places in the State was arrested by the Kancheevaram district police. On instructions from Salem City Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Singh, Selvaraj and his accomplice Murugesan of Sankagiri were arrested on Sunday. Mr. Singh said that Selvaraj was the mastermind behind the dacoity and against whom cases under the provisions of Explosive Substances Act in Sivaganga district in 2004 and a counterfeit currency notes case in Salem district in 2006 were pending. There was a criminal case pending against him in Kanyakumari. The police also seized a car and a motor bike from him.
