Srishti proves the best

NEW DELHI: Srishti Singh was the best of the lot in the Indian squad in the World junior weightlifting championship which concluded in Sofia (Bulgaria) on Sunday.

Srishti (snatch 90kg, clean and jerk 115kg) lifted a total of 205kg to finish fifth in the 75kg women's competition. Another Indian in the fray in this category, Premila Devi was eighth.

Santoshi Matsa (snatch 66kg, clean and jerk 82kg, total 148kg) ended up at the sixth spot in the 48kg category.

Other women who participated in the championship were: 63kg-Chandrakala Seera (11 {+t} {+h}) and Aruna Rani Gara (12th); 69kg-Reena (13th); +75kg-Reena Kaintura (12 {+t} {+h}).

India was fourth in the women's team classification and ninth in the men's.
