Mumbai: The IPL Governing Council will review the media rights contract with World Sport Group (WSG) Mauritius and Multi Screen Media (MSM) at its meeting here on Friday (June 25). The BCCI had signed a ten-season agreement for $1.026 billion with Sony (changed to MSM in 2009) and WSG for television rights in the Indian sub-continent, international television, global radio, mobile and internet rights. Following an out of court settlement in 2009, the agreement was revised to Rs. 8200 crore for nine years from 2009 to 2017. But the BCCI was not in the know of MSM agreeing to pay a ‘Facilitation fee' of Rs. 425 crore to WSG. Through a press release in April, MSM explained that the ‘Facilitation Fee' was for the original option fee of $25 m (Rs.115 crore approximately) to extend the rights (from season 6 to 10) and an additional fee of Rs. 310 crore over the 9 years of the contractual period. Initially MSM held the Indian sub-continent rights for the first five years. Other items on the agenda are commercial exploitation of the 150 seconds free air time during IPL Season 3, report on the investigations into the BCCI-IPL by investigating agencies, report on Viacomn-18, IPL nights and IPL awards, report on ticketing agency and match tickets and compensation paid to Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings because of the cancellation of Champions League T20 in 2008. Also report on expenses incurred on IPL office meeting room at Four Seasons hotel, ground transportation bill of Lalit Modi, share holdings of franchises, payment to vendors and service providers, letters from Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils on sale of share holdings (KXIP) and restructuring of holdings (GMR) and matters discussed with the ten franchises on June 24 are to be tabled.
