NAGAPATTINAM: Thirukkuvalai engineering college would have a campus to call its own within a year. This would be a marked leap for the existing engineering college that had been functioning from a private school campus for the past two years. The new engineering complex would be spread over an area of 40.2 acres given by the government. The land had been bought from Dharmapuram Adhinam. As part of the Phase I work, the complex would have an academic block with classrooms, lab facilities, faculty cabins, a library, a conference and a seminar hall, a toilet block. The government had made a one-time sanction of Rs.17.18 crore for the project. The block would have a ground plus two floors. In the interim period, six temporary shelters with three air-conditioned classrooms each were being set up, and the classes would commence from these shelters from July 15. The temporary shelters would be fully equipped with Wifi connectivity to support over 50 laptops and the computer labs would be equipped with LAN facilities to support about 50 computers. Similarly, the faculty would be provided with internet facilities. The temporary shelters would be fitted with RO (reverse osmosis) treated drinking water. Five courses in civil, mechanical, electrical and electronics, ECE and computer science disciplines were being offered in English medium while civil and mechanical engineering were offered in Tamil medium. The construction work for the academic block was proposed to be implemented by the technical wing of Directorate of Technical Education.
