Free treatment for Antyodaya card holders

Hubli: Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and Hospital, Hubli, will perform angiogram and angioplasty on poor patients who have cards under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana. The beneficiaries under Antyodaya scheme can avail themselves of the facility free of cost during the cardiac health camp from July 3 to 16 in Dharwad district.

Medical Director of KIMS M.G. Hiremath told presspersons here on Tuesday that the camp will conclude with a Continued Medical Education (CME) programme for cardiologists on July 17.

Besides Hubli, Dr. Hiremath said cardiac health camps will also be held simultaneously at Kalaghatagi, Kundagol and Navalgund from July 3. It will be followed by health camps at KIMS Hospital in Hubli and Civil Hospital in Dharwad on July 10.

At the camp, patients who have Antyodaya ration cards can undergo free health check-up besides getting angiogram and angioplasty done free of cost if necessary. However, patients who do not possess Antyodaya ration cards will be given 50 per cent subsidy on all the services.

CME programme

Dr. Hiremath said during the CME programme on July 17, cardiac surgeons Dr. C.N. Manjunath from Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences & Research, Bangalore and Dr. Dixit from KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Belgaum, will perform ‘live cardiac surgery'.

Cardiologist N.S. Hiregoudar said Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences had extended financial help of Rs. 25 lakh for improving infrastructure at the cardiac wing in KIMS. By July 1, another 20 beds would be added to the cardiac wing and KIMS will soon offer a postgraduate course in cardiology, he added.
