Mayor to get a new vehicle

MANGALORE: Within eight months of the civic body purchasing two new Ambassador cars — one for the Mayor and another for the Commissioner — it proposes to purchase another car. This time the civic body wants the Mayor to travel in a brand new Toyota Innova.

Mayor Rajani Dugganna has approved the proposal, treating it as an urgent issue, without waiting for the council meeting on Tuesday. The council, however, approved it without any discussion.

An official note on this matter tabled at the meeting said that the council, in its April 16 meeting, had resolved to purchase a new Ambassador for the Deputy Mayor. However, the Mayor ordered a new Innova for her use while transferring the Ambassador to the Deputy Mayor.

The note said the civic body would have to obtain the permission of the Government for purchasing the new vehicle. Sources in the corporation told The Hindu that in November last, the civic body had spent about Rs. 11 lakh for purchasing two new Ambassador cars. A new Innova would cost the civic body about Rs. 12 lakh.
