BHUBANESWAR: Exhibiting rare care for the cattle and incredible courage, a college girl in the non-descript Aanra village of Keonjhar district, sacrificed her life while saving the lives of three cows from fire that destroyed their house at midnight on Monday. As soon as Padmabati, an undergraduate student of Bonth College and daughter of Narayan Parida, saw fire engulfing the thatched cowshed, she rushed into the shed to unchain the nine cows despite warnings from the family members not to risk her life. She could free three cows but before she could escape, fire charred her to death on the spot along with the six other cows. Her aunt Damayanti, who attempted to pull her out of the fire, was badly burnt and has been battling for life in a hospital. Padmabati's shattered mother Damayanti said that her daughter was very fond of the cattle and unlike other college-going students of the village, she was serving them fodder and water in time everyday. Padmabati's story of love, courage and sacrifice has been the talk of the town in the locality.
