Bangalore: The decades-old State-owned Spun Silk Mills at Channapatna in Ramanagaram district will reopen in three months and newer varieties of Mysore silk saris in over 80 designs and readymade garments such as trousers, shirts and kurtas will be produced for exports and the domestic market. Disclosing this to presspersons here on Monday, the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Chairperson, C.P. Yogeshwar, said that the Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa, had agreed to reopen the factory, and the subject was scheduled to come up before the State Cabinet for its approval. The Government had, eight years ago, decided to close down the mills and sell it, along with 20 acres of land, following fierce competition from China. It has not been operational since then, he added.
