12-hour flight delay upsets passengers

Passengers made to wait at Muscat airport

Stopover at Mumbai added to their woes

Nedumbassery: About 100 passengers of a Kochi bound Jet Airways flight from Muscat on Wednesday had a harrowing time after the aircraft developed a technical problem.

The passengers were stranded at the airport for over twelve hours.

According to the passengers of the flight 9W 533, they had to spent over an hour inside the aircraft before they were told to disembark on account of the engineering problem.

On disembarking, they were confined to a lounge at the airport there from 1 p.m. till midnight and were hardly given any food and water by the airline authorities.

By 12 a.m., the passengers were ferried to Mumbai on an assurance that they would be taken to Kochi from there by the morning.

However, the stopover turned out to be more disastrous after the airline had once again failed to accommodate them in the morning flights to Kochi.

“At the Muscat airport, people were seen lying on the floor where as at Mumbai, they took no responsibility to ensure our onward journey from there and we were forced to stage a protest against the airline at both the airports,” said one passenger.

Later, the passengers were taken in a flight to Kochi that took off from Mumbai by 11.30 a.m. on Tuesday and landed here two hours later — exactly a day after their scheduled departure from Muscat.

Meanwhile, a lady passenger complained that she had lost the validity of her visit-visa along with that of her two kids owing to a multiple stamping of the documents following their disembarkation at Muscat.
