NIZAMABAD: In the current run up to the byelections in 10 Assembly constituencies , all eyes are on the Nizamabad (Urban) constituency from where PCC president D. Srinivas is contesting. Defeated in the last election by BJP nominee Yendala Lakshminarayana, this time he is treading very carefully. Ever since the Congress high command made it clear that the party will fight the byelections, the PCC president cleverly started moving pawns. He kick-started the campaign much earlier and is serious and cautious in plugging “chinks” which were found in his last campaign. Apart from roping in all leaders and cadres who distanced from him in the last elections, he adopted a two-pronged strategy -- constituency development and achievement of separate Telangana. To soothe the feelings of pro-Telangana voters Mr. Srinivas during the course of his campaign yesterday at Sanjeevaiah Colony said that separate State would be bestowed soon after the Srikrishna Committee submits report to the Centre. Ms. Sonia Gandhi is in favour of Telangana, he said. “I do not speak about Telangana everywhere and with a selfish motive. I will speak on it wherever it is necessary and will be in forefront in achieving it,” he said. He met members of different caste associations and caste heads and said if he wass catapulted in the current election, they could see him in a higher position.
