ASC dominates opening day

BANGALORE: ASC Centre dominated the opening day of the State taekwondo championship, winning all five golds that were up for grabs in the men's section at the Sree Kanteerava indoor Stadium here on Friday. Yogesh Chandra Tiwari of ASC defeated Niyaz Ahmed of Basavanagudi Centre 9-1 and bagged the gold in the under 63 kg category. The other gold getters for ASC were Sanjeev Kumar (under 80 kg), P.Silas (over 87 kg), A.Pradeep (U-58 kg) and N.M.Balakrishnan (U-68 kg).

IN the women's section, Roopa S. Reddy of Rail Wheel Factory (U-52 kg) and Laita Lamani of Dharwad (U 62 kg) won golds.

The results:

Men: Under-58 kg : A. Pradeep Singh ( ASC) . U 63 kg : Yogesh Chandra Tiwari ( ASC). U-68 kg : N.M.Balakrishnan (ASC). U 80 kg : Sanjeev Kumar ( ASC). Over 87 kg : P.Silas ( ASC). Women: U 49 kg : Heera ( Karthik Foundation ). U 53 kg : Roopa S.Reddy ( RWF). U 63 kg : Lalita T.Lamani ( Dharwad) .

St. Joseph's wins

St. Joseph's Boys High School enjoyed a good day out at the Cottonian Shield T-20 tournament, posting comprehensive wins in both U-17 and U-14 categories, here on Thursday. While Cambridge Public School were put to the sword in the U-17 match, it was Bethany High School's turn to be humbled in the U-14 game.

The scores: Under-17: Frank Anthony PS 213 for five in 20 overs (Sairam 59, Danush 53, Rishab 51) bt Baldwin BHS 150 for six in 20 overs (Ashitosh 56, Sukesh 26) by 63 runs.

St. Joseph's BHS 142 for four in 20 overs (P.S. Kunal 52, Akshay Tiwary 29, Sanketh 27 n.o.) bt Cambridge PS 46 in 17.2 overs ( Vaibhav four for five, Vikranth three for 11) by 96 runs.

Bethany HS 151 for five in 20 overs (Shreyas 73 n.o.) bt St. John's HS 117 for five in 20 overs (Shaik 56) by 34 runs.

Under-14: Bishop Cotton BS 141 for eight in 20 overs (Saksham 32, Saurav 25) bt Frank Anthony PS 109 for nine in 20 overs by 32 runs.

Bethany HS 46 in 14 overs (G. Darshan three for 10) lost to St. Joseph's BHS 50 for no loss (S. Krishna 26) by 10 wickets.

Vidyashilp Academy 182 for four in 20 overs (Ankit 40, Sujith 37, Akash 27) bt St. Germain HS 30 in 9.4 overs (Akash five for 11) by 152 runs
