Training camp for NSSO officials

Sports Reporter

Coimbatore: The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) has been conducting its annual National Sample Surveys on various aspects of the Indian population and its economy. The 67th round of the survey, to be conducted during July 2010-June 2011, is earmarked for the collection of data on un-incorporated non-agricultural enterprises (excluding construction) covering manufacturing, trading as well as service sectors.

To ensure uniform standards and procedures of data collection, a three-day Regional Training Camp for the officials to be involved in the survey work is being organised by its field functionaries at Coindia, SIEMA buildings, on Race Course Road, from June 30 to July 2.

Officials from the State Directorate of Economics and Statistics are also participating in the training. R. Radhakrishnan, Professor in Statistics, PSG College of Arts and Science, will inaugurate.

At the national level, data will be collected from 8,336 villages and 7,664 urban blocks by the NSSO covering approximately seven lakh enterprises. In the Tamil Nadu (West) region of the NSSO, encompassing the districts of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode, Salem Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Karur and Ariyalur, 192 villages and 228 urban blocks will be surveyed.

The survey is being conducted by well-trained officials of the NSSO, who will be visiting the villages and urban blocks, and approaching the households and enterprises to collect the data.

Without the cooperation of the owners of the enterprises and the public it will not be possible to collect reliable data. So, NSSO appeals to the public as well as the entrepreneurs to provide reliable information and contribute towards building a sound database of unincorporated / unorganised sector.
