TIRUPATTUR: The Tirupattur bus terminus will soon get a facelift. The municipality has sent a proposal to the government to take up improvement works at the terminus to enhance basic amenities. The terminus receives good patronage from commuters every day. However, basic amenities, especially the pay-and-use toilets at the terminus, are poorly maintained. “We have sent a proposal to the government for improvement works to the bus stand at a cost of Rs. 92 lakh. The proposal includes shifting the toilets, open urinals and two-wheeler parking shed to a vacant space available inside the terminus,” an official said. The municipality has sought grant from the government for carrying out the works. The official pointed out that the terminus was earlier in a bad state and the condition had improved after encroachments were removed. There are a line of shops on either sides of the terminus. Once the two-wheeler parking shed is moved to the vacant space, the shopping complex would be extended and, subsequently, the bus bays would increase, the official said. In addition, two TASMAC shops inside the terminus are a cause of concern for commuters and shopkeepers. Officials said the shops were leased out to TASMAC a few years ago. The TASMAC authorities were also informed of the objections put forward by the public and the traders.
