Members on the dais deliberating at conference of the Rushikulya Gramya Bank Officer's Association in Berhampur on Sunday. — BERHAMPUR: The members of the Rushikulya Gramya Bank Officers' Association (RGBOA) demanded amalgamation of all Regional Rural banks in the country for the establishment of a ‘Rashtriya Gramin Bank'. They made this demand at the 16th conference of the association held in the city on Sunday. The chairman of the Rushikulya Gramya Bank (RGB) PVST Seshagiri Rao attended the conference as the chief guest. It was also attended by the general secretary of the National Federation of RRB Officers, S.Venkateswar Reddy and joint convenor of Orissa Shramik Karmachari Ekta Manch, Dusmanta Das. In his address Mr. Rao elaborated the achievements of the RGB which according to him could not have been achieved without the cooperation of the officers. He praised the role of RRBs in the rural development in the country. The guests of the conference were of the opinion that the government was not taking adequate steps to strengthen the RRBs in the country. Mr. Das said if the Central Government is proposing to form bigger nationalised banks through merger of some of them, why same thing cannot be taken up in case of RRBs. According to him stronger RRB network can only lead to proper development of agriculture and rural sector in the country.
