NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi Police to initiate prosecution proceedings against three policemen for allegedly framing a person in a criminal case. Justice S. N. Dhingra passed the direction on a petition by Manjeet Singh Chug who was allegedly framed by the three policemen but was later acquitted by a trial court here following investigation of the charges against them by the Vigilance Department of the investigating agency. The probe had held the three policemen guilty of framing Mr. Chug. Later, the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor had granted sanction for prosecuting these police personnel. The petitioner in his plea submitted that the Delhi Police were trying to protect the three police officers -- Inspector Ashok and Sub-Inspectors Sandeep Sharma and Sunil Jain -- of the Kotla Mubarakpur police station in South Delhi for framing him under Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC as they had flouted the L-G directive. Justice Dhingra directed the Registrar-General of the High Court to send a complaint under Section 195 (prosecution for contempt of lawful authority of public servants) of the CrPC to the police for initiating prosecution against the three police officers. “I consider that after sanction of the L-G action should have been taken against these persons for falsely implicating Chug and these persons should have been put on trial.” The Court also issued notice to the Delhi Police Commissioner seeking his reply.
