Double for Tamil Nadu

PROUD WINNERS:The Tamil Nadu men's and women's teams, which won the titles in the South Zone basketball championships

VISAKHAPATNAM: Tamil Nadu completed a grand double in the 51st South Zone seniors basketball championships at the Port stadium here on Sunday evening.

After women retained the title on Saturday, the men's team overcame an initial onslaught from Karnataka to post a 77-62 win the last round-robin match. Karnataka, joint-winner with Tamil Nadu last time, finished runner-up.

The results: Men: Tamil Nadu 77 (S. Robinson 35, Saravana Rajan 14) bt Karnataka 62 (Kaushal R 18, Srinivas Naik 14, Sanjay Raj 13).

Andhra Pradesh 86 (Gopal Ram 38, B.P.Ch. Kumara Varma 18, Lakbeer Singh 15) bt Kerala 75 (Bony Mathew 20, Rahul Krishna 12, Sanju A. Joy 11).

Women: Sri Lanka 63 (Inoka Sandamali 15, Solanji Gunawijaya 14) bt Andhra Pradesh 42 (Amita Jaiswal 19, Surya Kumari 7, L. Anjana Chowdary 6).

Kerala 53 (P.R. Surya 17, Lijimol P 8, Jilna J 7) bt Karnataka 38 (M. Sandhya 11, Sushmita J 6). — Special Correspondent
