Lokayukta cannot have special powers: Minister

Staff Correspondent

HASSAN: Labour Minister B.N. Bache Gowda, who is in charge of Hassan district, said here on Sunday that the Government could not give special powers to the Lokayukta because it could lead to differences between the judiciary and the Lokayukta.

The Lokayukta was a government institution and should function as part of the Government, he said.

Mr. Gowda, who was on a private visit to Hassan, was speaking to presspersons here.

Following demands of the Opposition to give special powers to the Lokayukta, the Chief Minister would discuss the matter in the Cabinet meeting on Monday, he said.

However, the Government would appoint an Upalokayukta soon, the Minister said.
