They submit a petition to the Collector ELURU: The government employees belonging to various departments staged a dharna at the Collectorate here on Tuesday under the banner of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) seeking to concede its wish list. The protest, which was formally launched by Joint Action Committee district convener L.V. Sagar, lasted till evening from morning. A large number of women employees and teachers also took part in the demonstration. They submitted a petition to the Collector with a charter of demands. The demands included filling of 3.5 lakh vacancies in various government departments for a long time. The employees were feeling overburdened due to a large number of posts remaining unfilled, the protesters said. The Joint Action Committee also demanded regularization of the services of vidya volunteers and relaxation of the distance limit from 8km to 15 km for coverage of house rent allowance (HRA) for the government employees working in urban centres keeping in mind the rapid urbanisation
