Contempt case: court seeks AG's view

Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday sought the views of Advocate-General C.P. Sudhaka ra Prasad on the legal question whether a writ petition seeking to initiate contempt of court proceedings against CPI(M) leader M.V. Jayarajan for his remarks against the judiciary is maintainable.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice J. Chelameswar and Justice P.N. Ravindran directed the Advocate-General to give his views in view of the legal question involved in the controversy and various objections raised by the High Court Registry as well as the background in which the petition was filed. The High Court Registry noticed that a petition seeking contempt of court action could be moved only with the consent of the Advocate-General.

The writ petition sought to initiate contempt proceedings against Mr.Jayarajan for making statements against judges in the wake of a High Court ban on holding public meetings on roadsides.
