Dipika loses

CHENNAI: Indian hope Dipika Pallikal fell at the semifinal stage with a determined Nour El Tayeb of Egyptian showing her the exit from the women's World junior individual squash championship in Cologne, Germany on Monday.

It was a repeat of their meeting in the last edition held in Chennai in 2009. On that occasion too the Egyptian girl had doused the Indian dream.

Second-seeded Dipika this time lost in three games 15-13, 11-9, 11-9, the match lasting 40 minutes.

Every game was closely fought with both players using the front of the court more often. Dipika seemed in control in all the games but Nour won the ‘big points' and that made the difference.

In the final, fourth-seeded Nour will play the third seed Amanda Sobhy of USA.

Amanda created a sensation when she upset the reigning champion Nour El Sherbini of Egypt 12-10, 14-12, 11-9.

Both matches were similar in intensity as Sherbini gained an upper-hand initially only to see the grip slip away in the face of the spirited effort from Amanda.

Meanwhile Anaka Alankamony will have a play-off for the seventh position while Anwesha Reddy and Aparajitha Balamurukan will play for the 17th spot.
