ITDA Project Officer faces ire at ZP meeting

Staff Reporter

MLAs and MLCs criticise officials for not following protocol

NELLORE: Even as the government sanctioned enough funds for Scheduled Tribes, many Yanadis and other tribes were suffering from abject poverty in Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district due to the negligence of ITDA officials, alleged public representatives.

The MLAs, at the Zilla Parishad general body meeting held here on Wednesday, expressed anger over Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Project Officer K. Ramesh for not giving necessary publicity for the welfare schemes and for keeping the public representatives in dark about ITDA activities.

The ITDA, Nellore, has to monitor the tribal development and welfare activities in Nellore, Prakasam, Chittoor and Kadapa districts. A total of 5.50 lakh tribal people live in the four districts of which 3.79 lakh are Yanadi tribesmen.

Kavali MLA Beeda Mastan Rao said the ITDA PO was not inviting MLAs for governing body meetings and questioned how the officials could come to know of the problems in agency areas if public representatives were not invited for meetings. Many tribal hamlets in Kavali, Kovur and Udayagiri Constituencies remained underdeveloped due to the negligence of the officials, he said.

The ZPTCs alleged that the welfare schemes were not reaching the beneficiaries in tribal hamlets and urged the ZP chairman to set right the system in ITDA.

Responding to the complaints, Zilla Parishad chairman Kakani Goverdhan Reddy directed the ITDA PO to invite MLAs for governing body meetings and give information to public representatives three days before the ZP meeting.

Protocol violation

Gudur MLA Balli Durga Prasad came down heavily on the officials for not following protocol and insulting the ZPTCs, MPTCs, Sarpanches, MLAs and MLCs. Even after getting instructions from the district Collector, the officials were violating protocol and ignoring MLAs and the local body representatives in the official programmes, he alleged. Mr. Goverdhan Reddy directed Joint Collector T. Seetaramaiah, who attended the meeting, to take into consideration protocol violation incidents in the district and conduct an enquiry.

The ZPTCs complained that the students were facing severe problems due to lack of classrooms, toilets and kitchen sheds in government-run schools in the district. In some places, the school buildings were in dilapidated condition and urged the authorities to construct new buildings.
