NGO's charge against ITDA
ARAKU VALLEY: Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) has been providing 75 per cent subsidy on vegetable seeds to all growers and any farmer can go to their nearest Horticulture Sub-Assistant to get his supplies.
ITDA Project Horticulture Officer Srinivasa Rao told The Hindu that they had purchased Rs.18 lakh worth of seeds and distributed among the growers in all 11 mandals last year and similar quantum was ready with field staff for distribution.
A non-governmental organisation Sanjeevini based at Killoguda working for the vegetable growers had been approaching the Horticulture Department for supply of seeds for the past five years, but they had been directing them to the ITDA Horticulture section, who allegedly never responded. The NGO coordinator Devudu said no support was available from the ITDA for these growers.
Refuting these allegations, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said stock was available with the Sub-Assistants or they can even come to Paderu ITDA office to get the seed. In addition to supplying seeds for tomato, cabbage, cauliflower, carrot, corriander, bottle gourd and ridge gourd, integrated pest management (IPM) for vegetables was being encouraged in 200 hectares, he said
