Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is expected to make a statement in the state Assembly on Thursday on the murder of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)'s former MLA, Ananda Das. Das was murdered at Nanur in the State's Birbhum district on Tuesday evening.

Admitting a calling attention motion by Nirmal Das, a legislator of the Revolutionary Socialist Party on Wednesday, the Speaker H.A. Halim asked Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Sailen Sarkar to fix a date for the Chief Minister to make a statement on the incident in the Assembly.

Mr Sarkar said that the Chief Minister will do so on Thursday.

Earlier, CPI(M) MLA Pradip Tah had claimed that armed supporters of the Trinamool Congress had ransacked the party's zonal office and that of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) at Nanur before attacking and killing Ananda Das .

Nirmal Das said that this was yet another instance of the politics of violence and a reminder of the dark days that prevailed from 1972 to 1977.
